Saving Lives,
One Dog at a Time

A local dog rescue set up by two friends, Sarah & Tracy helping abandoned, abused or neglected dogs and puppies in Competa and surrounding villages.

The main objective is to provide safe options for dogs in need by finding local foster homes and, on occasion, working with shelters with a proven track record. Liaising, supporting and working with fosterers to ensure the best possible outcome for the dog or pups in their care.

The aim is to help rescue and to re home using our combined years of experience, network of contacts and reputation in the field. Collaborating with other rescues and by using social media to share and promote dogs and pups available for adoption.

Working together with reputable veterinarians we prioritise each rescue dog or pup’s health and ensure that all are chipped, vaccinated and have their passports. As a responsible rescue we also neuter all adult dogs before adoption.

The motivation is to help save lives. We hope to do this effectively by helping one dog or two pups at a time.

Sarah Baker

Since moving to Andalucia Sarah has volunteered at two local shelters, Tails Torrox and El Refugio de Leo. This work included dog walking, cleaning, transporting animals for vet visits and feeding the dogs and cats in the kennels and cattery.

Since 2021, Sarah and her husband Andrew have fostered over 35 dogs for local rescues, Axarquia Animal Rescue, El Refugio de Leo and Give a Dog a Home. This includes young pups needing bottle feeding to older feral dogs that have been rescued from the streets.

Previously Sarah has volunteered as a caseworker and home checker for Axarquia Animal Rescue. This role involved posting adoption appeals, arranging foster equipment, liaison with fosterers and potential adopters, coordinating vet appointments and offering support to fosterers as needed.

Tracy Cowlishaw Smith

Tracy has volunteered with various rescues in several different countries over the past 15 years.

A 6 month stint on Vancouver Island, Canada working at the local Rescue with her wife, involved weekly sessions with a litter of puppies helping to socialise them and training them over a 12 week period.

In addition, assisting with the socialisation of dogs rescued from First Nations compounds (at their request), and general cleaning and care of the Shelter’s kittens, cats, puppies and dogs in situ at any one time was one of her first roles in rescue.

Passionate about all animals Tracy has also been active in the rescue of abandoned and neglected animals in India, Australia and, in recent years in Spain.

Since retiring to Spain, Tracy has volunteered for 2 local rescues acting as Foster Co-ordinator for 3 years with Axarquia Animal Rescue serving on the Committee and as a member of the re-homing team for Give a Dog a Home Rescue, Malaga.
